Correct coat care for cats

20.01.2019

You probably know how sensitive your cat's skin is - did you also know that skin is the largest organ? Care is therefore very important. Here you will find the best tips on coat care for your cat:

Positive experience

So that your cat is not afraid of the brushes, you should bring them into contact with them as early as possible. Through a treat, stroking or specific training, brushing is linked to something positive. This way the grooming ritual can become a relaxed moment of togetherness.

The right brush

Not every brush is suitable for your quadruped. Cats with tight, short fur can be rubbed with a piece of deerskin to remove excess skin and fur. You can also really pamper your cat with a massage brush or rubber nub brush. For breeds with dense, short fur a massage brush with natural bristles is suitable. A comb with rounded tips or a wire brush with curved prongs is especially helpful during coat change.

More care for a long coat

Longhaired cats need more intensive coat care. The daily brushing supports your furry friend with the extremely complex fur care. Bacteria can collect under matted fur and form eczema. Heavily matted areas can cause pain to the cat and must be removed by the vet. Therefore, you should comb the coat thoroughly on a regular basis to prevent it from getting that far in the first place.

Supply sufficient nutrients

To make the skin resistant, the cat needs a lot of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Food supplements rich in fatty acids, zinc or vitamins can give the coat additional shine and strength. But even with a balanced diet, your cat's coat will remain healthy.
